ASML campus expansion

print LinkedIn

Since early September 2010 the construction activities on the campus of ASML in Veldhoven are in full swing. Additional office space and a new clean room with corresponding engineering building are under construction. These are needed because ASML increases the production due to strong demand growth. Like all other buildings on the campus of ASML, these new buildings are also designed by van aken architects. The completion of the additional office space is planned in May 2011 and the cleanroom in November 2011.

Extension office and cleanroom

On top of the clean rooms (conditioned dust-free environment) that were completed at the end of 2008, the existing offices will be expanded with two additional wings. This will result in four office wings of three floors each. These are as it were ‘loose’ on the roof, so there is minimum contact with the underlying clean rooms. The new clean room will be considerably larger than the existing clean rooms: 6,500 sqm instead of 5,500 and 5,000 sqm. That does not include the engineering building which has a floor space of 2,700 sqm.

Special construction
Because of the very stringent vibration requirements in the clean room, both the engineering building and the main frame of the clean room are separately founded from the ground floor. Furthermore, the construction of the building is designed so that in case of an emergency the production of ASML can continue.

Flexible approach
Designing for ASML means an architect must be flexible and should have a foresight. The sector in which ASML operates is very dynamic and subject to market changes. In its first design van aken architects took a new clean room and a dispatch center into account. The dispatch center will temporarily not be built because as many as possible square meters clean room have to be realized. This in order for ASML to meet the strong growth in demand.
